It is your responsibility to ensure your animals have the appropriate tests on file with the CSA office:
1. Natural Service Sires
require a high definition test (which is 100K as of 2023) with Sire verification.
2. AI Sires
require a high definition test (which is 100K as of 2023) with parentage verification. Note that the dam must have SNP DNA on file prior to submitting the AI sire's SNP test. If not, order a basic SNP test for the dam and send samples together so the lab can complete the PV test on the bull.
3. Donor Dams
require a high definition test (which is 100K as of 2023) with sire verification.
4. Embryo Born Calves
require parentage verification. Note that a producer may opt to just verify without a full 100K genetic panel, so please review full lab screen to understand which results are on file.
It is equally your responsibility to ensure any bulls you purchase have the required DNA on file:
1. Purchased bulls becoming a Natural Service Sire or AI Sire -
ensure a high definition test (which is 100K as of 2023) with parentage verification is complete. Confirm that the bull's dam has DNA on file in advance, or that stored hair is available for full parentage verification. Without confirmation to both sire and dam, the bull will not qualify as an AI Sire.
2. Sample testing -
the office will test all samples to the fullest extent possible. If an animal's sire and dam both have DNA on file, the sample will be tested to the fullest parentage extent. Please note that basic SNP tested animals will need to be retested with a new sample at high definition (100K as of 2023) or greater in order to qualify as an AI sire or donor cow.
